In Memoriam - Edward Antosek

AsMA’s staff were deeply saddened to hear of the death of L. Edward Antosek, M.D.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, he graduated from Belmont Abbey College, Belmont, NC, with a B.S. in Chemistry/Pre-Med in 1968. He earned a D.O. from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1972 and served an internship at Memorial Hospital in York, PA, in 1973. He then practiced general medicine in New Freedom and Lykens, PA, until 1976, when he was commissioned into the U.S. Navy. He then reported to the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola, FL, as a student flight surgeon. Afterwards, he reported to Marine Air Corps Station in Beaufort, SC, as a squadron flight surgeon in 1977.
   From 1979 and 1986, Dr. Antosek practiced family and emergency medicine in Charlotte, NC, and was assigned to Patron 66 at NAS Willow Grove, PA, as a Naval Reserve flight surgeon. He was voluntarily recalled to duty in 1986 as an airwing flight surgeon with Carrier Air Wing Six aboard the USS Forrestal. In 1988, he took residency training in Aerospace Medicine at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute and received an M.P.H.&T.M. from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans, LA, in 1989. When he completed his residency in 1991, he reported to the Second Marine Aircraft Wing, MCAS Cherry Point, NC, as a wing surgeon.
   Dr. Antosek served as a family physician at Advantage Health Center in Myrtle Beach, SC, from 2006–2008 and as a family physician from the Department of Defense in Burnsville, NC, from 2007–2014. He was a physician liaison officer for Joint Task Force National Capital Region Medical from 2008 to 2018 and was also a senior aviation medical examiner from 2014–2018 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
   Dr. Antosek joined the Aerospace Medical Association (AsMA) in 1988 at the Annual Scientific Meeting in New Orleans. He was a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, the South Caroline Osteopathic Medical Association, and the American College of Physician Executives. He was board certified by the American Board of Family Practice and had licenses in North and South Carolina and Florida.
