Obituary Listing: Claude Harvey, M.D.
We have just learned of the passing of Claude A. Harvey (1934-2012).
A graduate of the University of Maryland with a medical degree in 1963, Dr. Harvey began his naval career in 1969, having been a civilian doctor in Baltimore, MD, and McLean, VA. In 1971 he qualified as a saturation diving medical office at the Naval School of Diving and Salvage. Harvey completed a fellowship in hyperbaric physiology at the University of Pennsylvania Institute for Environmental Medicine in 1973 and went on to become chief of hyperbaric medicine there. He was also senior medical officer of Submarine Development Group One, and force medical officer for the commander, Submarine Force, Pacific Fleet. He joined AsMA in 1972. In 1985 he assumed command of the Naval Submarine Medical Research Lab, Groton, CT. He was a member of UHMS, an Emeritus Member of AsMA, and a leader in the diving community.
