Boston Points of Interest

The following information was taken from the Boston, MA Visitors Guide and Boston USA!, the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau website. An Interactive map of Boston that can show where places are located is available. For public transportation, there is the MBTA, the Mass. Bay Transport Authority, which offers the T, buses, and trolleys. There are two T stops near the Sheraton: in front of the Prudential Center on the Avenue of the Arts, and another at Newbury St. and Massachusetts Ave.

Museums/Libraries

  • Mary Baker Eddy Library: 200 Massachusetts Avenue; 617-450-7224. Dedicated to the life and achievements of Mary Baker Eddy, a 19th century pioneer, with interactive exhibits and the world-famous Mapparium.
  • John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum: Columbia Point; 617-514-1600. Official memorial to JFK on a 10-acre waterfront site with panaromic views of Boston Harbor.
  • "Dreams of Freedom" Immigration Museum: 1 Milk St.; 617-695-9990. Features interactive exhibits, talking walls, moving gangplanks, and personal artifacts chronicling Boston's immigration history.
  • Museum of Science: Science Park; 617-589-0125. Features science exhibits, a planetarium, a butterfly garden, a 3-D cinema, laser shows, and live presentations.
  • Museum of Fine Arts, Boston: Avenue of the Arts, 465 Huntington Ave.; 617-267-9300. Offers ongoing and special exhibitions, gallery talks, films, concerts, artist lectures, and family programs.
  • U.S.S. Constitution Museum: Charlestown Navy Yard, Bldg. 22, Charlestown; 617-426-1812. Visit this museum dedicated to "Old Ironsides" and learn about its history through interactive galleries only yards away from the ship itself, which is currently undergoing reconstruction.

Tours

  • Boston National Park - Freedom Trail: 15 State Street; 617-242-5642. A 3-mile walking trail with 16 sites of historic importance. Tours lasting 90 minutes are available at the Visitors Center.
  • Boston Duck Tours: Science Park, near the Science Museum; 617-267-DUCK(3825). Take a tour of Boston ending with a 'splashdown' into the Charles River for a view of the Boston and Cambridge skylines.
  • Boston By Foot: 77 N. Washington St.; 617-367-3766 for recorded information, 617-367-2345 for general information. Offers a variety of walking tours of Boston.

  • Spirit of Boston: Seaport District; 866-211-3807. This company offers a variety of cruises from Boston's historic Seaport district.
  • Odyssey Cruises: Rowes Wharf; 800-9GO-SAIL. Offers tours of Boston harbor.

Boston has a wide variety of restaurants and cuisines to choose from. Here are just a few that are near the Sheraton:
