Phoenix Tourist Information

The following information was taken from the Arizona Office of Tourism's site. The hotel is located in downtown Phoenix and is one block from the Phoenix Convention Center. Public transportation is available, as are taxis and rental cars. There is also an interactive map available.

Museums/Art Galleries

  • Heard Museum: 2301 N. Central Ave.; 602-252-8848; www.heard.org/. Offers collections, exhibits, festivals, and interactive learning about the culture and art of contemporary Native peoples with an emphasis on the indigenous people of the southwest.
  • Phoenix Art Museum: 1625 N. Central Ave..; 602 257-1880; www.phxart.org/. Displays art from all four corners of the world from ancient to modern.
  • Wells Fargo History Museum: 145 W. Adams St.; 602-378-1852; www.wellsfargohistory.com/. Exhibits cover the history of Wells Fargo and the West.
  • Arizona Science Center: 600 E. Washington St.; 602-716-2000; www.azscience.org/. Offers hands-on, interactive exhibits, a planetarium, live demonstrations, and traveling exhibitions.
  • Rosson House Historic Museum: 113 N. 6th St.; 602-262-5070; www.rossonhousemuseum.org/. This 1895 historic house is open for public tours, special events, and school tours.
  • Heritage & Science Park: 115 N. 6th St.; 602-262-5071; http://phoenix.gov/PARKS/heritage.html. Offers a glimpse into Phoenix's Victorian past with the only remaining buildings that date from the original townsite.

Outdoors

  • Arizona Bureau of Land Management Information Center: 1 N. Central Ave.; 602-417-9300; www.blm.gov/az/st/en.html. Provides free information about Arizona's public lands. The center is located on the 8th floor of the Phelps Dodge Building.
  • Maricopa Country Parks & Recreation Department: www.maricopa.gov/parks/. Offers hiking and biking trails, guided hikes, and picnicking and camping. Maricopa Co. offers 11 parks within a 45-minute drive of downtown Phoenix.
  • Kartchner Caverns State Park: 1300 W. Washington St.; 602-542-4174; www.pr.state.az.us/. Tour a living cave, see exhibits at the visitors center, walk the hiking trails, visit the hummingbird garden, and view the stars from the campground.

Shopping

  • Phoenix Public Market: 602-493-5231; www.foodconnect.org/. Features Arizona-grown foods, flowers, freshly baked bread, local arts and crafts, tasty meals, and live music. Open on Saturdays from 8 AM to 12 PM May through September and located on Central Ave. and McKinley.
