A Message from Your President

Hello all!

I truly hope you are all looking forward to coming to Phoenix next May!! I just returned from the Scientific Program Committee Meeting and it was great!! We actually have at least one presentation panel each day specifically around aeromedical evacuation. I’m also asking for your help: We have an Aeromedical Evacuation Grand Rounds planned but currently have only one slide presentation. I implore you to consider sending someone from your squadron, or coming yourself to provide insight to the attendees on the very special patients we care for in the air and their many complicating factors.

I also want to remind you all that there is a scholarship opportunity for a student to attend the conference. Specifically the Marshall Scholarship which I’ll be happy to provide information on if anyone would like to reach out with a candidate in mind. We in Aerospace Nursing Society have a tremendous opportunity at this conference to honor our newcomers as well as seasoned professionals. I’m sending a letter to commanders and chief nurses across the U.S. Air Force to advise them of the available awards. If you have someone to nominate or would like me to reach out to the senior leadership of your squadron, company or country, please just send an e-mail and I’ll get right on it.

I know that everyone is very busy and there are less and less options available to us when it comes to time or funding. The Aerospace Nursing Society of the Aerospace Medical Association provides an avenue to be recognized or recognize colleagues with awards, a means to publish the research of yourself or your unit and even to present your significant cases in a ground rounds forum. We all know the importance of networking in professional organizations and this is a strong association which fosters both aerospace medicine and aerospace nursing. If each of you could ensure that your senior leadership is made aware of these unique opportunities, we can increase participation in the annual meeting and our membership. I hope you have found, as I have, that this meeting has a lot to offer.

If you are a nurse who is currently a member of the parent organization and would like to learn more about the Aerospace Nursing Society, contact us to renew your membership, or volunteer for a panel, please feel free to reach out to any of this year’s officers:

We can all be reached at the new group mailbox: aerospacenursingsociety@yahoo.com.

I hope to meet you and your colleagues in the coming year and anticipate a terrific “Care in the Air” focus for next year’s conference.

Fly safe and take care of each other,
Nora Taylor, LtCol (retired) USAFR, NC
