Dear Members and Fellows of AsHFA:
Over the past several years, there have been very few new nominations for Fellowship in AsHFA. In fact, last year the Association added only one new Fellow, and the year before that, no new Fellows were even nominated. A major part of this problem was because of the governing procedures that we formerly used to nominate and select Fellows. Our former method required that only currently active Fellows could nominate a Member for Fellowship, and that three additional active Fellows had to write letters in support of the nomination before it could be brought to a vote. The general AsHFA Membership was completely excluded from this process. Because the number of active AsHFA Fellows was small to begin with, because they were generally geographically and professionally separated, and because the nomination procedures were difficult to implement, the number of Fellows has remained small.
Our former nominating procedures have been altered with the recent changes in AsHFA’s bylaws; the procedure for nominating new Fellows has been streamlined, and active regular Members of AsHFA can now initiate nominations for Fellowship in the Association. The acceptance or rejection of any new nominations still resides exclusively in the hands of the voting Fellows, but the nomination process itself has now become more open.
Individual Members should be nominated for Fellowship to recognize their unusual and outstanding contributions to AsHFA and/or their outstanding performance in the field of Aerospace Human Factors. The Aerospace Human Factors Association will recognize all newly elected Fellows at its Annual Business Meeting in May.
To be eligible to become an AsHFA Fellow, a Member must:
The current process to submit a nomination for Fellowship in AsHFA is relatively simple and straightforward. To initiate a nomination for a new Fellow, any current Member or Fellow should do the following:
